It always amazes me how God can really use anything or anyone to grab my attention, and to draw me closer to Him. This week he used a “friend” whom I adored when I was just a little girl. What’s funny is, I don’t remember this friend ever asking me about my relationship with God when I was little. 🙂
Have you ever been stretched to grow in an area, whether it was something you signed up for or not? And in the midst of it, have you felt too overwhelmed to move forward or to make progress?
Each week, I get to enjoy participating in the journey of my piano and guitar students as they are stretched to learn and to grow closer to becoming great musicians. This has provided many “God moments” for me as I’m stretched to learn and to grow closer to Jesus.
Just last week, as I smiled inside over the perfectly dramatic “it’s too hard” act my sweet student was giving me over a song assignment I had given her, God was smiling at me. I even wondered if He told her to really ham it up, just so I would get a humorous yet clear and convicting picture of what I’ve looked like with Him at times in this past year of stretching and growing.
Here’s the “song” He wanted me to learn in that lesson:
I have to say, in the past few weeks, I have felt quite overwhelmed as some dear friends of mine have encountered things that just don’t seem like they should happen in the life of a Christian. I found myself asking God why He would allow the cancer and the heartache, and not do something about it. These verses are truly an anchor in the storm of doubt.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. (NIV)
The story of Joseph that begins in Genesis chapter 37, is a favorite of mine. I guess that means Joseph’s dad wasn’t the only one to show him favoritism. 😉
